Player Interview: Ryoya OGAWA

Q, looking back at the Kawasaki Frontale match, it seemed like there were some early struggles but the team settled down as time went on. How was the overall performance throughout the 90 minutes?
Although we lost, I think we were able to express what we wanted to do to some extent. I believe the players who played also had a sense of fulfillment or accomplishment.

Q, we had a higher ball possession rate than Kawasaki.
A, in the first 15 minutes, we let the opponent take control, but after that, we dominated the ball and had many opportunities to go near the goal. Tokyo had more shots and chances, so it's even more frustrating that we couldn't convert them into results. We need to make sure to connect the performance with the outcome.

Q: During the preseason camp, there were comments that it takes time for the new style of football to permeate. Did you feel any sense of being able to develop your own style of football despite the concerns?
Coach Albert also said that it would take time for the new style to permeate. I expected it to be difficult at the beginning of the season, but I think we were able to play the kind of soccer we wanted more than I thought. I think what we have been doing for the past month since the new system started was not wrong.

Q, Do you need to frequently adjust your positioning while watching the movements of the wing and midfield players as a side back? Were you able to play smoothly?
A, not only did I play on the side, but I also think I was able to take positions on the inside fluidly during the game. I believe there were also moments where I received the ball and was able to break Kawasaki's press. In terms of carrying the ball, I think both myself and Kensuke Nagai were able to smoothly circulate the ball while changing positions.

Q, I want to continue connecting with a good image in the next game, right?
A, I think we must continue to play our own football in the next match without forgetting the image of the opening game.
