For myself, for the teamThe professionalism shown by "Dama-san"

GK 1 Tsuyoshi KODAMA

Every person and player has a story. '2024 PLAYER’S REVIEW' introduces all the blue and red warriors who fought through the 2024 season, one by one. What thoughts did they carry as they went through the season? Confidence, a sense of achievement, challenges, joy, regret... Reflecting on this season's battles through the words of each player.

Tsuyoshi KODAMA, who has had a positive influence on the team based on a high level of professionalism. He gained opportunities to play in cup matches and achieved results, while also experiencing frustrating moments in league matches. Nevertheless, he faced forward and fought for the team. This is about "Dama-san" in the 2024 season.

The J.League YBC Levain Cup match against Y.S.C.C. Yokohama, and the Emperor's Cup match against Veertien Mie. Kodama played a role in getting off to a good start in the cup competitions that Tokyo has struggled with in the past, but on the other hand, there were also matches where he had a tough role when he could not contribute to the victory.

In the match against Kashiwa Reysol in Sec. 13 of the Meiji Yasuda J1 League held on June 11, Go HATANO received a red card during first half stoppage time after a successful comeback to lead 3-1. From then on, Kodama, who was substituted in with one player less, defended the goal. However, they could not maintain the lead in the second half, conceding two goals and ending in a draw, which sparked criticism.

"I was really criticized. It made me quite depressed. Of course, I have things I want to say, but... it was tough being constantly subjected to criticism."

Kodama endured. He takes responsibility for the conceded goal. He understands that he is in a position where excuses are not allowed. Trust can only be regained through performance and actions on the pitch.

"We can only show it through our play. We switched quickly and did it. There are times when we feel down when we can't perform well in training. But there's nothing we can do about that. We have to accept it and move on."

While showing good play as an individual, he also inspires those around him and cares for his teammates. Such a demeanor of 'Dama-san' is not often seen by the public, but traces of his personality remain scattered across social media and the internet. In the practice match against the Singapore national team held in Kodaira in October, over 100 spectators witnessed the strong coaching that encouraged the playmaker, Ryunosuke SATO.

"I have a strong desire to contribute to the team on the pitch. That feeling has not changed even now. However, my commitment to give my all, regardless of my position, for the team and its victories has also not changed. I have approached this season with the stance of doing everything I can in the position I am in."

In the only goalkeeper position, it is not uncommon to be in good form but not be able to play in official matches. In that sense, not getting injured is also a sign of reliability.

"I believe that not taking a single day off from training and not having any absences is one of my strengths. If I were to become unwell, I would be an unpredictable player."

I will not lead a life that disrupts my condition by being undisciplined or excessive. Kodama, who subtly overcomes difficult situations while advancing through the ups and downs of a football career, can truly be said to embody the essence of a professional football player.

"You have to have the confidence that you can perform well whenever your chance comes." The player wearing number 1 expressed this, continuing to show agile movements every day in Kodaira.
