□ "Healthy Heart Week" and "Healthy Heart Day"
Circulatory diseases, represented by stroke and heart disease, are known to be the second leading cause of death among Japanese people, following cancer. However, in terms of medical expenses, they rank first, and they are also the leading cause of caregiving-related illnesses, posing significant social problems. On the other hand, unlike cancer, prevention is highly effective through proper education. Therefore, the Basic Act on Measures against Circulatory Diseases, which was enacted in 2019, promotes nationwide prevention and awareness campaigns. The Japan Heart Foundation designated August 10th (Heart) as "Healthy Heart Day" in 1985 and has been holding cardiovascular disease prevention and awareness events around August 10th every year. Starting in 2021, the Japan Circulation Society, the Japanese Circulation Association, and the Japan Heart Foundation, and starting in 2023, the Japan AED Foundation4 have joined forces, and the Healthy Heart Day Executive Committee has been established to promote further dissemination and awareness. This year, from July 29th (Sat) to August 10th (Thu) 2023, various events will be held under the theme of "Healthy Heart Week 2023".
