After attending Shizuoka Prefectural Shimizu East High School and Tsukuba University, he played for Nissan Motor and Shimizu. After serving as a coach at Tokoha Gakuen Hamamatsu University and Shimizu, he became the first Japanese coach to win the domestic triple crown in the J-League with G Osaka. Since 2018, he has been demonstrating his skills at FC Tokyo.
