どうしても負けられない一戦！

　2ndステージ第4節は東京ヴェルディ1969との対戦。現在3位と好調のヴェルディ。2勝1敗、勝点6は6位につける東京と同じであるが、3戦で9得点、得失点差＋6という数字はリーグトップ。前節は鹿島を相手に2点先行、前半途中から10人での戦いを強いられて逆転負けを喫したが、トップ下に置いたエジムンドを中心にしたサッカーが有機的に機能。その攻撃力は大きな脅威となっている。

　だが今日のゲームは、順位や星勘定を差し置いてもどうしても負けられない一戦だ。それは原監督以下、選手もスタンドも、そしてヴェルディにとっても同じ思いであったかもしれない。東京を本拠地に持つクラブ同士、意地のぶつかり合う一戦は秋の気配を漂わせた東京スタジアム、東京のキックオフで火蓋を切った。

Vanquish Verdy! 

The opponents for the fourth game of the second stage were Tokyo Verdy 1969. 
Leading scorers Verdy, lying third in the table at kick off, were unfortunate to lose to Kashima Antlers in their previous match by the odd goal in five after being reduced to ten men. Paced by Brazilian Edmundo playing just behind the forwards, their attacking prowess was expected to prove a menace to the TOKYO defence. 
With Verdy now based in the capital as well this is a fixture neither side wants to lose; from manager Hara to the players and the fans, the determination on the F.C.TOKYO side was palpable as the game kicked off in an electric atmosphere on a cool autumn evening.

支配するも、ヴェルディのカウンターで先制を許す

　開始から両チームともアグレッシブな姿勢をみせ、フィールド上で行き来の激しい、まさに“攻防”が繰り返される。東京は4分、右サイド石川からのパスを受けたアマラオが中央に向かって突進、ペナルティアーク右付近で倒される。ボールは中にフォローに上がった石川の前にこぼれて絶好のシュートチャンスとなったが、一瞬早くアマラオに対するファールのホイッスルが吹かれた。これで得たフリーキックから宮沢がゴールを狙ったが、わずかに左下にはずれる。

　ヴェルディは6分、エジムンドが中盤でボールを奪うと東京のDFラインが上がっているのを見逃さず、ワンタッチで前線にパスを送る。これにFW平本が追いつき、浮かしたシュートを放ったがゴールの上にはずれ、ピンチは逃れた。その直後には、戸田のポストプレーからアマラオがシュート。ヴェルディは8分に、左サイドからのFKをエジムンドが直接ゴールを狙うが、いずれもGKがキャッチ。

　東京は厳しいプレスが効いて、ボールを奪うと支配。徐々にヴェルディは前に進めなくなる。16分にはセットプレーのボールをつないで茂庭がシュート。ヴェルディDFがブロックしてCKに。だが、このCKの直後のことだった。ヴェルディはクリアボールを前につなぐと、最終ラインから攻め上がったDFロペスが拾って左サイドの平本へ。平本は左サイドを独走、東京DFを引きつけゴール前にラストパスを送ると、フリーで待ち構えていた“最も危険な男”＝エジムンドがワントラップしてシュート。ボールは豪快にネットを揺らし、あっという間の見事なカウンターから、東京は先制点を奪われた。

Verdy Take The Lead 

Both sides began the match in aggressive fashion but best chance of the opening exchanges fell to F.C.TOKYO in the 4th. minute. Amaral received the ball from Ishikawa in a central position and embarked on a surging run at the heart of the Verdy defence until clattered to the ground just outside the area. Following up, Ishikawa retrieved the loose ball and had only the keeper to beat but the referee had blown for the foul. Miyazawa curled the free kick around the Verdy wall but narrowly past the post. 
In the 6th. minute Edmundo won the ball in midfield, spotted the TOKYO defence line had moved too far upfield and launched a pass into the empty space. Forward Hiramoto raced onto the ball and floated a shot over the charging TOKYO keeper Doi; fortunately the ball cleared the bar as well. 
Edmundo fired a free kick straight at Doi in the 8th. minute. 
Although TOKYO were pressing hard in midfield and playing the ball around stylishly, Verdy threatened on the break. Moniwa had a shot blocked for a corner in the 16th. minute; the ball was cleared to Lopes who hared forward and found Hiramoto in space on the right. Hiramoto drew the defence towards him and squared the ball for the unmarked Edmundo to lash a shot into the roof of the net for the opening goal. A lightning fast counter attack and world class finish gave Verdy the lead.

ボールに対する執念を見せるアマラオ、PKで同点に！

　東京はここで10分過ぎに足を痛めていた石川が交代を余儀なくされ、20分、喜名が替わって右サイドに入った。だが先制されても戦い方を替えることなく、プレスをかけて奪い支配する東京。22分には、喜名のクロスにアマラオが合わせてCKを奪うと、そのCKからジャーンがヘディングシュート。だがGKにキャッチされる。29分には、ヴェルディの最終ラインでDFがボールをキープしているとみるや、戸田と宮沢が猛然と詰めていった。そして迎えた30分、土肥のゴールキックをヴェルディDFがクリア、ルーズボールをアマラオが果敢に追うと、ペナルティエリアに入ったところで倒されPKをゲット。31分、このPKをアマラオ自身がきっちりと決めて、試合を振り出しに戻した。

　その後も右からは喜名が、左では茂庭が起点となってヴェルディゴールに迫る東京だが、ラストパスの精度や、受け手の思いきりも悪くシュートの打てない時間が続き、前半は終了した。

Tenacious Amaral Ties It! 

Ishikawa, injured early in the match, had gamely battled on but was unable to continue and Kina replaced him after 20 minutes. TOKYO continued to press forward with Kina making an immediate impact, bursting down the right and crossing to Amaral. The Verdy defence conceded a corner but the keeper held Jean's header. A period of sustained pressure from the home side followed and a typical piece of opportunism from Amaral earned the equaliser. Doi punted the ball downfield and a loose defensive header fell invitingly for Amaral who was upended as he raced into the area. The "King of Tokyo" picked himself up, bamboozled the Verdy keeper and tied the score from the spot. 
Buoyed by the goal TOKYO began to dominate proceedings but failed to take advantage of several half chances and the first half finished 1-1. 

狙い通りの展開から、ケリーが勝ち越し弾！

　1対1で迎えた後半。原監督のハーフタイムの指示は「エジムンドをフリーにするな。もっとシュートを打っていこう。喜名を起点に徹底してサイドからクロスを入れていこう」というもの。その指示どおり、喜名が時にはキープ、時にはパスで揺さぶり、攻め上がりをかけて起点となり、東京はゲームを優位に進めていく。

　48分には、右サイドを上がった喜名のクロスを中央で受けたケリーがシュート。CKを奪う。このCKのこぼれ球を、再び喜名がミドルシュートでゴールを狙う。キープして攻めにかかる中で、53分にはヴェルディの逆襲をくらう。自陣エンドライン際で奪い、エジムンドがつなぎに入ると、左サイドから平本がスピードを活かして攻め込む。ラストは右ゴールエリア直前でフリーになったFW桜井がシュート。あわやというところであったが、このシュートはジャーンが間一髪のところでブロックに入り、事無きを得た。

　支配する東京、カウンターのヴェルディという構図の中、それでも集中を切らすことなくゴールに向かう東京。55分には加地のクロスに戸田がヘッドで合わせるがゴールの上にはずれた。だが戸田をインに置いて、サイドから起点をつくるという狙いが功を奏する。57分、左サイドでキープしていたアマラオがゴール前にクロスを送ると、中央で戸田と競った相手DFに当たってゴール前にこぼれる。このボールに対して宮沢、ケリーがきっちりと詰めており、ラストはケリーが右足で押し込んでゴールイン！　貴重な追加点を奪った。

　手を緩めない東京は、61分には戸田に替えて福田を投入、「もう1点」を狙いにいく。一方でヴェルディは、エジムンドをトップに上げ、「DFラインを押し込むことで中盤でスペースをつくろうとした」（ロリ監督）。だがこれで東京DFはしっかりマークにつくことで、エジムンドをフリーにさせることがなくなった。そして一方的に攻める東京は、63分には加地のスルーパスを受けたアマラオが右ペナルティエリアから強烈なシュート。GKのセーブで得たCKから、こぼれ球を宮沢がシュートするが、わずかに右にはずれる。75分には、アマラオが左サイドをドリブルで攻め上がり、送ったクロスに福田が飛び込むが相手DFと交錯。追加点を奪うことはできなかったが、逆に85分にはアマラオに替えて浅利を投入。今まで以上に勝負に対する執念をみせて守り抜き、タイムアップ。どうしても勝ちたかった一戦で白星を挙げるとともに、2ndステージの順位も3位に浮上。次節は首位のジュビロ磐田に挑む。

【原監督の会見要旨】「いつも以上に勝ちたいという気持ちがあった。ヴェルディは前節の鹿島戦でも、エジムンドを中心に、彼にボールがわたると周りの選手の動き出しが速く、そこからリズムをつくっていた。その戦い方はわかっていたので、エジムンドに対してラクに前を向いてプレーさせないようにした。ところが石川が右腿の打撲の影響で、普段であれば追いつけるボールをさらわれ、結局エジムンドをフリーにさせて先制を許してしまった。嫌な感じはしたが途中から入った喜名が、石川とはまったく違う持ち味を活かしてうまくタメを作りながらいいリズムをつくったと思う。ここのところ1得点しか取れない試合が続いていたが、今日も2点取ったあとに3点目が取れるチャンスが何回かあった。今後はそういうところで決められるように、クロスやトラップ、シュートの質を上げていかなければいけない。危ない場面もあったが、ライバルで勢いがあるチームに対して勝ったということで、次のジュビロ戦に向けていい準備ができたと思う」

【ヴェルディ・ロリ監督の会見要旨】「会見では試合の技術の面について話をしたいのだが、非常に苦しい。結果に直結するような残念なことがゲームの中で起きてしまっている。FC東京にはおめでとうと言いたい」

Kelly Bags The Winner 

TOKYO manager Hara's half time instructions were terse:" Mark Edmundo. Shoot more. Kina, get forward and cross". The team followed his direction to the letter as Kina broke down the right in the 48th. minute and centred to Kelly, whose shot was deflected for a corner. The corner was cleared to Kina who tested the Verdy keeper with an awkwardly bouncing volley. TOKYO kept possession and probed for an opening, simultaneously maintaining a watch on dangerman Edmundo. Jean made a vital block to deny Sakurai in the 50th. minute as another length-of-the-pitch counter attack from Verdy, sparked by Edmundo, threatened the TOKYO goal. 
Toda had moved infield as TOKYO sought to make headway along the flanks and his header from a Kaji cross sailed narrowly over the bar in the 55th. minute. Amaral, out on the left wing, aimed a cross at Toda soon after; his knock down fell in front of Miyazawa and Kelly but it was the latter who extended a leg to prod the ball home and put TOKYO in front. 
Manager Hara then replaced Toda with forward Fukuda as TOKYO pressed for a third and decisive goal. Verdy responded by pushing Edmundo further forward to " tie up the TOKYO defence line and create some space in midfield", according to manager Lori. The TOKYO defence smothered Edmundo, denying him any time or space on the ball. At the other end Amaral fizzed a shot on target in the 63rd. minute which the keeper did well to beat away for a corner. Miyazawa latched onto a weak clearance but fired fractionally wide. 
Fukuda nearly had the ball in the net in the 75th. minute from an Amaral cross but a desperate far post block denied him a chance to kill off the game. When a third goal wasn't forthcoming Asari replaced Amaral and TOKYO comfortably saw out the remaining few minutes for a well deserved victory that moved them up to third in the table, and set up a clash with league leaders Jubilo in the next game. 

F.C.TOKYO manager Hara: 
" We wanted to win tonight even more than usual. We knew what we had to do:stop Edmundo going forward. Due to Ishikawa being injured Edmundo managed to evade a marker and score. It was disappointing but Kina came on and played very well and we found our rhythm. We are only averaging a goal a game so we were pleased to get two tonight and were looking for more. Still, it's good to beat rivals like this and great preparation for the Jubilo game on Sunday". 

Verdy manager Lori: 
" At a press conference I should talk about the skill of the players, but it's difficult. Many things happened tonight which had a bearing on the result. I would like to congratulate TOKYO".
